Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival | 9:00am – 4:00pm
The Kamloops Dragon Boat Festival will be taking place alongside of Ribfest this year on Saturday August 11th. Teams from across the province are coming to Kamloops to compete on the South Thompson River off the shores of the Riverside Park beach. The racing is expected to start at 8:30 am and continue until 4:00 pm.
Dragon boating has become a modern sport, with ancient traditions, that is both competitive and fun! Boat crews consist of 20 paddlers, a steersperson and a drummer. The divisions in the festival will be all women including breast cancer survivor teams, mixed (men/women), and seniors. New to the competition this year is the ‘Company Challenge’ division. This was added in cooperation with the Kamloops Dragon Boat Club as a program intended for local businesses or organizations interested in forming a crew to learn to paddle a Dragon Boat and reinforcing team spirit!
Spectators, cheering squads, and looky-loos are all welcome to come down and support the teams as they paddle the 500m metre race course down our river!
